At the height of the first wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Kenyan Peasants League (KPL) received support from the Agroecology Fund USA (AEF) under small grants to help KPL respond to Covid-19 pandemic. The money was used to purchase six water tanks in six KPL Clusters and Sink Five Boreholes in Five KPL Clusters to enhance water harvesting; lease land in Nine KPL Clusters to grow fast maturing and immune boosting food to enhance the immune system of members and to ensure availability of food. The grant also went into enhancing KPL Household and Cluster Seed Banks and also was used to establish a Solidarity Fund for KPL members.
The leased lands are currently being managed by the KPL Youth Collective in the Clusters and one such cluster is Kangemi Cluster where the youths planted seeds that were received from other KPL Clusters as part of multiplying them with a view of establishing a National Seed Bank and Seed Shop. The National Seed Bank and Shop will be supported by the Hard Infrastructure Fund from La Via Campesina Southern and Eastern Africa Region (LVC SEAf) through Global Aktion a Danish Based NGO.
